Sam Kruger, RPT
Originally from Waterloo, Iowa, I attended Chicago College of Performing Arts with the intention of getting a degree in violin performance. While there, I discovered a passion and aptitude for piano work while working with the piano technician at the school. After graduating with my bachelor's degree in musical arts, I attended both North Bennet Street School's Basic Piano Technology and Advanced Piano Technology programs. From these programs I gained in-depth experience in aural tuning, regulation, and repairs, as well as bigger projects such as action and pedal lyre rebuilds, restringing, finish repair, and more. While enrolled, I received my Registered Piano Technician certification from the Piano Technicians Guild after passing their qualifying exams for both aural tuning and technical proficiencies.
During my time as a student at NBSS, I worked as an apprentice under the head piano technician at Boston University, where I tuned and maintained pianos in practice rooms and faculty studios, as well as performance and recording venues for the arts program. I also assisted with several action rebuilds for their practice room pianos.
I am now back home in Iowa and living in West Des Moines. I'm thrilled to be serving my growing local client base as well as being the technician taking care of the pianos at Simpson College in Indianola, and I am enthusiastic to offer my services to piano owners throughout Des Moines and surrounding areas.
